A Mayflower travel bag & John Carver
From Massachusetts Historical Society Archives An ancient traveling bag. It is of a heavy woolen
homespun stuff ribbed like corduroy, mounted with green leather bindings,
straps, handles, etc. It is shaped like a mail-bag, and the straps laced
through large eyelet holes. This bag is believed to have
held the possessions of John Carver (picture below from history genius) on the Mayflower. Carver was the first signer of the Mayflower Compact. He married 1st Marie de Lannoy and 2nd Catherine White Leggatt, widow of George Leggatt.
