Benjamin Gerrish Gray aged 85 and his wife Anne Eliza (nee Wiggins) aged 83 on their golden wedding in 1903, standing in front of their house 4 Inverness Gardens, Kensington, London, England. He was a senior Bank Manager, having been a Partner in BCT Gray and Sons from 1856-1858. He was born in Bermuda; she in New Brunswick. They married in St John, New Brunswick on 12 October 1853, and migrated back to England soon afterwards. Both the Gerrish and the Gray families were important First Settler families, the Grays in Boston, MA, the Gerrishes in Salem, MA (and other towns in MA and NH) and later in Nova Scotia. Thus both families can be traced from England to New England and back. Similarly, Thomas Wiggins came from Battersea, England and migrated to New York; 6 generations later Eliza moved back to England.
The sitters are Abigail (Flint) Gerrish wife of Benjamin Gerrish and one of her granddaughters, probably Abigail, daughter of Benjamin and Margaret (Cabot) Gerrish. PEM Photo

Joseph Marriner Gerrish Family, circa 1824
Charles Gerrish a retired farmer of St. Charles, is numbered among the honored pioneers of Winona County, having here made his home since 1855. He has witnessed the entire growth and development of this region, and has ever borne his part in the work of progress and development, so that his name is inseparably connected with the history of this section. A native of New Hampshire, Mr. Gerrish was born in Canterbury, Merrimac County, on the 1st of March, 1822. His father, Joseph Gerrish, was also born in that locality, and was the sixth in direct descent from Capt. William Gerrish, founder of the family in America. The Captain was born in Bristol, England, in 1617, braved the dangers of an ocean voyage in 1639, became a resident of Newbury, Mass., and died in 1687. His son, Col. Moses Gerrish, was the father of Col. Joseph Gerrish, and the grandfather of Capt. Stephen Gerrish, who was the great-grandfather of the gentleman whose name heads this record. The grandfather bore the name of Samuel Gerrish.
